On Saturday, June 26th, the Science Fiction Hall of Fame officially inducted science fiction greats Octavia E. Butler, Richard Matheson, Douglas Trumbull and Roger Zelazny into its illustrious membership. The ceremony was held in conjunction with the Locus Awards and NW Media Arts writing workshops as part of a larger Science Fiction Awards Weekend. You can read a full release here.
Congratulations to the honorees!
What took ’em so long??
Butler totally deserves it. I’m so sad she died when she did. Her prose was raw and immediate in a way few SF writers manage. And her cultural observations and ability to roll up implications scared the piss out of me way beyond anything Stephen King’s ever dreamed up.
All of these people are well deserving, I just have a question on the timing:
How messed up is it that you can be elected a Grand Master over a decade before you get selected for the hall of fame? WTF in spades?
