In the annals of pop culture couture, the extraordinary scarf worn by the Fourth Doctor on Doctor Who stands out as a triumph of both whimsicality and comfy-ness. Luckily for us non-Gallifreyans, the BBC was kind enough to release a pattern, so you can knit your own!
A cosplayer named 93Fangshadow received the instructions from their mother, who in turn received them from her mother. And, weirdly, a second Whovian named Carjacker posted a similar pattern after his grandmother recreated the scarf back in the 1980s. Winter doesn’t stand a chance if you’re wrapped up in one of these suckers.
A Doctor Who scarf was practically the first thing I ever knit. It was in a book called, “The Knit Stitch”, aimed at new knitters. It’s the kind of item you can do entirely in garter stitch (the basic knit stitch) and it still looks amazing because of all the colors.
I gave that scarf away as a Christmas gift, but perhaps it’s time to knit another.
Can You please tell me the length of this scarf when finished?
Can you please tell me the length of the finished scarf.
WOULD IT BE POSSIBLE TO HALVE THE NUMBER OF ROWS TO ADAPT FOR A CHILD?
I’ve knitted this scarf and you have to knit it again as it’s not long enough when you follow and cast off
Where can you get the right yarn?
I have been wanting to knit this scarf for ages! I might even have copied the pattern, way back when, but now – with the coronavirus thing happening, I think it’s the perfect thing to do while watching tv or even reading! I might even have enough wool stashed away in my cupboards to do it without buying more – it all depends on my colour choices ‘way back when’!! Thank you to whoever posted it this time. I’m sure it does the rounds periodically!! Chris
