If you’re a fan of the Dark Souls game series or George R.R. Martin, you might be intrigued at the fantasy world the duo are co-creating for a brand new game: Elden Ring.
Take a peek at the new trailer, recently revealed at the E3 conference:
With these two creators coming together to create a new environment for epic fantasy fans to explore, it’s looking like Elden Ring will be the latest sure thing in video games. Get your Xbox ready!
The video game is very promising because you have 2 under-appreciated storytellers who are combining their styles of narratives for an under-appreciated genre of storytelling. In other words, video games still haven’t received the credit they deserve for ALL of the NUMEROUS stories they’ve given to the world! Elden Ring is the latest video game to join that long list!
In what sense are they underappreciated as storytellers? The Dark Souls series and related games, for all that they basically steal stuff from HP Lovecraft and the like, have a huge fanbase that just love the games to pieces because of the lore and because they’re so hard that they feel superior for playing them, and well, GRRM has several prestigious literary awards dating back to his youth and he wrote the A Song of Ice and Fire series, which was adapted to one of the most successful TV shows of all time.
This is a very intriguing collaboration!
@2. jnhaces: Hint: try rereading the comment with a sarcasm filter…
I’ve always been a PC guy, building and upgrading my own comps over the years. Given the specs released at E3 of the new Xbox, this is the first time I’m tempted to get one. Or, since this game will also be on PC, maybe I’ll just build a new one. Nice problem to have.
It’s kind of a shame that this looks interesting. Because life is too damned short to inflict a From Software game on myself. I don’t care how good the story is, nothing is worth that sort of unrelenting frustration.
I want a collaboration between HIdetaka Miyazaki and another fantasy author who’s taking way too long to finish his series: Kentaro Miura, who writes the Berserk manga. It makes more sense in my head than this.
@5: Apparently this game will be an open-world game and more of an RPG than their last few games, which are much more action titles. On that basis, the game by definition will have to be more forgiving than their other titles, since they can’t know in what order you’ll encounter enemies or locations.
That said, waiting for reviews to see how punishing it is would be a very good idea.
@@.-@: Guess I’ve heard too many self-described “gamers” attempt to convince me or somebody else that video-games are just as good or even better than books/history lessons/movies/tv shows/etc that the post didn’t register as ironic.
