Tom Doherty Associates is pleased to announce (and, you know, Tor.com is not unbiased here!) that effective immediately, Irene Gallo is promoted to Vice President, Publisher of Tor.com! In this newly created role, Irene will be fully dedicated to the Tor.com website and imprint.

Irene joined Tor Books twenty-six years ago and quickly rose to head the Art Department. She has won the World Fantasy Award, the Richard Gangel Award for Art Direction from the Society of Illustrators, thirteen Chesley Awards, and numerous gold and silver medals from Spectrum and the Society of Illustrators.

Irene was also one of the founding members of the Tor.com website. In its first decade Tor.com has become a must-read site for science fiction and fantasy fans, and one of the most frequented publishing websites. Tor.com has won numerous awards for its original fiction, nonfiction, and art, including the Hugo, Nebula, World Fantasy, and Locus Awards.

Irene has also been instrumental in the creation and launch of the Tor.com imprint. In its four years of publishing it has won multiple Hugo, Nebula, Locus, World Fantasy, and Alex Awards.

Please join us in congratulating Irene and thanking her for her decades of dedication and creativity. We look forward to watching Tor.com continue to thrive and grow under her focused direction. (Congrats, boss!)

Congratulations!  I’ve been thinking lately about what a wonderful resource we have in the site.  Movie reviews, book reviews, scientific discussions, fiction, Tor.com has it all!

And, I too loved the art posts!

Congrats, Irene! You probably don’t remember me, but I worked in the publicity department around the time you started at Tor (1993-1994). You were always very kind to me, even though I was the prototypical “marketing intern who really wanted to be on the creative side.” I was always very impressed by your enthusiasm and the clarity of your vision. I’m not surprised at all that you are now running the show.

Best of luck on your much deserved promotion!

My only surprise is that it hadn’t happened sooner. So huge congrats on your rise to Popeship (or is that to the Mothership?)

I guess I will need to devise a huge tea or dinner when next you come to the house. Make it to the Scottish house next time. You will have the prime guest room with its own bathroom. Ask PNH and TNH about it. xxxxJane

Delighted to read the news! I love and keep Irene’s Picturing Series on my favorites bookmark and revisit from time to time. Excited for Tor’s future! Congratulations from a stranger to Irene who opened doors and introduced me to different artists.
