The first bit of Star Trek news out of San Diego Comic-Con 2019 just beamed in ahead of schedule. It looks like at least one new face has been confirmed for season 3 of Star Trek: Discovery, and if you’re a fan of the CW’s Supergirl, this should make you very happy. David Ajala is joining the cast as a character named Book.
On Saturday, just before the Star Trek Universe panel began in Hall H of San Diego Comic-Con, fansite TrekCore broke the news that actor David Ajala will join the cast of Star Trek Discovery season 3. This was then confirmed right away at the start of the panel. Ajala said the name of his character is “Book.” According to Ajala, the character will “break the rules” a little bit.

Supergirl fans know Ajala a Manchester Black, Nightflyers fans know him as Roy, and if you remember the 2010 Doctor Who episode called “The Beast Below” (pictured at the top of this story) he played a character named Peter, who was a scary enforcer on the Starship UK. He’s also had credits in The Dark Night, and Jupiter Ascending, so he’s very clearly got some amazing geek cred. And we can’t wait to see how he breaks the rules on Star Trek: Discovery. Because we pretty much know everyone who is on the crew of the USS Discovery, it stands to reason that Book will reside in the future that the ship jumped into at the end of season 2.
