What a delightful #WoTWednesday surprise! Last month, the cast and crew of Amazon Prime’s Wheel of Time adaptation sat down to read through episode 1, and this week, the show’s official Twitter released footage from the very first table-read.
The clip is stocked with goodies, from the actors playing our Two Rivers gang all hanging out together, to spine-tingling line delivery from Rosamund Pike as Moiraine, to Barney Harris as Mat sending the entire room into a giggle-fit. For the first time, we get to hear what the dialog sounds like, and if you freeze frame through the video, you just might be able to find some Easter eggs. (Is that Marin al’Vere and Daise Congar next to Mat? And Master Luhhan and Tam al’Thor next to them?)
Check it out, and leave your theories in the comments!
On September 10th, the cast and crew of #WOTonPrime got together to read the first episode of The Wheel Of Time. Production is now on its way and we are VERY excited to see this show come to life! #TwitterOfTime, this is for you. pic.twitter.com/FmWA4zeh2r

“The lady does shoot fireballs, so lets try to stay on her good side, eh?”
Ah, Mat. If anyone can figure out what the start of the line was, I’m all ears. Sounded like “Do I, eh?”
Goosebumps.
I still can’t believe it’s actually happening.
Actual dialog!!!
Oh my! So exciting!
Ah! I wanted more! Some nice line readings (what little we saw), and I did enjoy Barney Harris’s delivery, so very optimistic about his portrayal of Mat. I’m so excited for this.
was that music from the Sims franchise playing in the background? Weird
I have no idea what the Mat actor said. Not sure if it was the distracting music or his accent. All I got was fireballs.
@Sonofthunder my thoughts exactly. Can not actually believe it!!
Rosamund Pike is perfect. Not entirely convinced with that snippet of Rand yet but maybe that’s actually pretty appropriate for book 1 Rand… w
I’m 99% sure that’s Michael McElhatton (Roose Bolton from GoT) at 0:38 and 0:41. I am SO curious who he might be playing. His voice is phenomenal, so I could see him as Lews Therin, Ishamael, Thom…
*Happy giggle*
@8:
I’m guessing Tam.
Ok, can’t wait!
@8: If they want to retain his villainous streak from GoT, I’m thinking Padan Fain.
@1: I think the first bit is “Til then though, the lady…”
I heard
“*something covered by music* the lady does shoot fireballs, so let’s try to stay on her good side, eh?”
@8 I hadn’t even considered him for it, but he’d be perfect as Ishamael.
@13
I do believe you’re right.
Does anyone know who the bearded white haired guy with a blue jacket is? Is he an actor or something else?
@15 Yes – he’s got that perfect, haunted-eyes, world-weary persona. Even as Roose Bolton he looks like a guy who has seen and lived through far too much. Could be Tam, but man does it click for me with him possibly as Ishy.
I’m disappointed that I can’t by sight identify who’s going to be one of those slimy Coplins/Congars. Or at least Cenn Buie.
I so desperately wanted to find out who Thom was being played by today

The stress is killing me…it better NOT be Lord Bolton.
Even if the accent is never right, I will ALWAYS envision Thom as Sam Elliot!
Man, Rosamund Pike’s delivery was perfect. I love the timbre of her voice.
This is great and all…but why is it underscored by stock music from The Sims??
Oh wow. All he does is sit there, but he’s already the perfect Lan
I really hope they are training with weapons already. Lan needs to be the best sword fighter in the world by the start of filming, the others can learn as they go
i’m anxious to see this
@24 And Perrin needs to just set up a sleeping bag at the gym. Or a forge.
@24:
It will probably be a bit yet before they start filming. Unless they are all already trained horsemen, and have the same accents (the TR folks, at least).
And Lan only needs to be ready the first time they shoot a sword fighting scene with another human or Fade. There’s not a lot of skill involved in picking up a sword and hacking at CGI monsters during a frenetic, shaky-cam skirmish scene.
We also have no reason to believe they are shooting these episodes sequentially. But if they ARE shooting them sequentially, they likely won’t start shooting till after the first snow falls in Prague. Unless they plan to abandon the long winter motif of the first book, and the first thaws of Spring happening because of the events at the Eye of the World. Which is possible.
@27: I hope they won´t wait till the snow falls in Prague. I live in Prague. Waiting for clear, white snow that doesn´t turn into muddy slush the second it falls to the ground… could take some time, is all I´m saying.
@27: They already started filming as of September 16; this table read was September 10. It’s really happening! But yes, for the rest you’re right.
The draft of the first episode I red back in April was quite packed with things happening, also there was no mention to snow or anything climate-wise, also they were aiming to shoot even earlier but things happen and it’s a miracle they are able to start shooting already, and I know there will be a lot of shots done inside the studio, so no worries about the weather condition whatsoever.
@mehndeke
It’s “Till then, though, the lady does shoot fireballs…”
I cannot wait for Rosamund Pike’s Moiraine.
I think I’m going to need “Closed Captioning for the Accent Impaired!”
@Tessuna
They obviously aren’t waiting until the snow falls, but once it does I think it will enhance the feeling of winter hanging on at the edge of spring. They often had not just cold, but wet weather so the roads would often be muddy. I remember when I looked up what winter in Prague is like, I thought it sounded perfect!
@mike in Phoenix
That’s why I watch everything with captions on when there are heavy accents!
Matt’s first word was “dilemma”…source was newsweek article.
Why does every show like this have to have English accents?
