Chris Evans May Bring America’s Ass Back to the MCU

As far as anyone knew, Chris Evans’ Captain America permanently hung up—or rather, handed off—his shield at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson has the shield now, though Mackie has been cagey recently about whether that means he is Captain America.

But Evans may not be entirely done with the role: According to Deadline, he’s considering a return to the MCU.

This is all rumor and vagueness, and of course Marvel hasn’t said a word. Sources tell Deadline that it’s unlikely there would be another Captain America-centric movie, but that Steve Rogers might turn up in someone else’s story, like how Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man became a mentor to young Peter Parker and continued to appear in ensemble films after Iron Man’s star run was done.

There are obviously endless possibilities in the sprawling MCU, whether in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier or some of the timeline/multiverse wackiness that seems to be winging towards us in Loki and Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. All this buzz could just be over a cameo. Deadline’s story specifies Evans is in talks to appear “in at least one Marvel property with the door open for a second film,” so in short, we know nothing concrete. It would be a shady move to take that shield back from Sam; that moment was one of the most powerful scenes in Endgame. But there are plenty of other ways to bring America’s ass back to the screen.

So, I’m guessing that he misses that mandated chicken and rice diet and brutal exercise regime the studio had him on.

I rewatched some of the AVENGERS movies last weekend, and, dang ,I enjoyed America’s A** and Bucky’s goth smolder.

Given that Sam remains Falcon in the Marvel TV series, I’d say the shield is still available if Cap pops in for a cameo or two.

@1- As work-out motivations go, would you rank that above or below Arnold Schwarzenegger occasionally hammering on your door in the dead of night and demanding to inspect your abs, as Dolph Lundgren apparently had the benefit of?

As someone who wasn’t terribly satisfied with Cap’s conclusion in Endgame, I’m not sure how to feel about this, but given tat  a number of upcoming properties seem to be dealing with multiversal and/or time travel, I’m sure there’s plenty of opportunities to fit him in as a guest.

Now that Stan Lee isn’t available for cameos, maybe Cap will take on that role.

Well, I’m hoping for Deadpool 3 for a Cap and Wade teamup. I know, keep dreaming.

Ugh, no.

I am a huge MCU fanboy — my Top Five Favorite MCU Films List has 22 movies on it — but the dead need to stay dead. Otherwise it dilutes the impact of their stories.

In comics it used to be said the only people who stayed dead are Bruce Wayne’s parents, and Spider-Man’s uncle Ben and Peter’s girlfriend Gwen Stacy. But then they went and brought all four of them back, resulting in some of the worst stories ever penned in those universes.

Just move on. No one outside of we comics fans even knew who any of these characters were 10 years ago. Marvel has 3000 other characters it can use. Starjammers! Ka-Zar! White Tiger! Skaar! Nova! The other Nov

I can see him appearing in flashbacks, but agree with people who want the dead to stay dead.

@6 & 7 – He was an old man, not dead!

But Rogers is not dead! He is very very old, so I agree with seeing him as Cap in flashbacks, especially leading the Howling Commandos!

But the thing is, he isn‘t dead like Tony Stark. He could return as old man in a mentor role. Or it is a multi-verse cameo. There are many possibilities here. I was always curious how he managed to get all Infinity Stones back to their proper places…

@5 Let’s see…

The Mouth mouths off to Doctor Strange who gets mighty annoyed and sends him back to 1944. He has to help Captain  America and Howling Commandos succeed in a mission that allows D-Day to happen before he can get back to his time. The homoerotic tension between Cap, Bucky and Wade could be intense ;)

I have heard Evans debunked this rumor on Twitter.
