For many a 13-year-old, few things are as horrifying as the thought of one’s parents having sex. And it’s probably even worse if one of those parents turns out to be the literal devil. In the new animated series Little Demon, that’s one of Chrissy (Lucy DeVito)’s problems. The other seems to be that her evil powers manifested and she murdered a bunch of jerks. As a devil child does, I guess.
Little Demon is absolutely stacked with actors who are lending their voices to the series. Chrissy’s parents are played by Aubrey Plaza and Danny DeVito; the latter recently announced that there’s a little Twins reunion in the show when Arnold Schwarzenegger turns up. Eugene Cordero, Michael Shannon, Mel Brooks, William Jackson Harper, Pamela Adlon, Rhea Perlman, Shangela, Patrick Wilson, and Dave Bautista also make appearances.
The show was created by Darcy Fowler, Seth Kirschner, and Kieran Valla, and counts Dan Harmon (Rick and Morty) among its executive producers. Here’s the summary:
In FX’s Little Demon, an animated comedy featuring the voices of Danny DeVito and Aubrey Plaza, it has been 13 years since being impregnated by Satan, and a reluctant mother, Laura, and her Antichrist daughter, Chrissy, attempt to live an ordinary life in Delaware. However, the two are constantly thwarted by monstrous forces, including Satan, who yearns for custody of his daughter’s soul.
The understated vibe of “monstrous forces, y’know, including Satan, no bigs” might be my favorite thing about this. Little Demon premieres August 25th on FXX; stream it on Hulu.
