Syfy Drops Trailer and Premiere Date for The Expanse Season 2

Syfy’s space opera The Expanse spent season 1 meticulously worldbuilding the future that James S.A. Corey (a.k.a. Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck) envisioned in the book series that inspired it—especially the tensions between Earth and Mars, with the Asteroid Belt caught firmly in the middle. Now that viewers are good and settled in, it’s time to go to war.

The season 2 trailer has lots of Bobbie Draper (Frankie Adams), who we can’t wait to meet, but there’s also polarizing politician Chrisjen Avasarala (Shohreh Aghdashloo) down on Earth. And, of course, the crew of the Rocinante, who aren’t sitting out of the fight.

The Expanse premieres on Wednesday, February 8, with a two-part premiere. In the meantime, read up on what to expect from season 2, including this intel on Bobbie from executive producer Mark Fergus:

This year you’re going to get a huge glimpse at what Mars is all about. In The Expanse in general you see big issues through the eyes of a foot soldier, somebody on the ground who really embodies the aspirations of her whole planet. Bobbie is this giant new window into the story.

Oh Bobbie Draper… the world is not ready for how bad-ass you are going to be.

Maybe with S2 they begin to depart from the books more dramatically. Bobby appears months after the first book, but if she appears sooner then the Ganymede plot must change/not be present. Maybe the attack happens on Mars itself?
