The Tor.com office just ended up on the floor laughing to this trailer of Star Wars reinterpreted as a French existentialist film by YouTube user OneMinuteGalactica. The nihilistic pontification of Sartre melds surprisingly seamlessly with the tried-and-true story of galactic Civil War, sassy robots, and lucky farmboy Jedis.
Never before has the struggle of a band of rebels against the status quo seemed so hopeless. As if a million voices cried out in realization of despair and then were suddenly silenced. (By a laser. This is still Star Wars.)
Stubby the Rocket is the mascot and voice of Tor.com. It floats endlessly within the black between worlds, aware that existence holds nothing more and that nothing can be done to halt the endless track of an uncaring universe.
This made me so happy. Merci infiniment!
I am curious, does Existential Han still shoot first?

As Camus wrote: “Greedo died today. Han shot first maybe, I don’t know. I got a telegram from the Hutt: ‘Han wanga killee Greedo. Yanee da poo noo.’ That doesn’t mean anything. Maybe it was yesterday.”
Awesome. Thanks for the link. I love that “Despair!” still-frame. I didn’t know if this video was going to catch on or not. Most of the stuff I do is fairly slapstick, and this video wasn’t really too laugh-out-loud funny, so I’m extra glad to see this one finding an audience. Thanks, Tor and Stubby.
