Here’s a first look at one of the most anticipated movies of the the year, Elysium, from District 9’s Neill Blomkamp. And it looks fantastic.
The impoverished inhabitants of a ruined planet Earth fight to join the safe and pristine living conditions of the space station Elysium, where only the wealthy reside. One resident of the planet’s slums must get to get to the space station and kidnaps someone in order to do so.
Elyisum comes out August 9th and stars Matt Damon and Jodie Foster.
It looks AMAZING!!
Kind of a shame that the awesome concept of the Ringworld is being diluted in what will certainly be a less awesome, shoot-’em-up film. If they ever do make Ringworld, the kidz will say, ‘Oh, yeah, it’s just like in that movie, Elysium!’
Still, it looks like it could be okay as political commentary, along the lines of Gattaca (but will it?). And both Jodie Foster and Matt Damon are always worthwhile.
Don’t worry. They’re probably already saying “it’s just like in that game, Halo!”, so this is hardly the first time a ring habitat in space has been noted in our popular culture.
What a great cast! Sharlto Copley! Diego Luna! Faran Tahir! William Fichtner!
I’ve keeping my excitement tempered (despire copious exclamation points.) I really loved the surprise of District 9, when I went into the theater with no expectations.
anything from District 9’s director should be incredible. That film was impressive from both a cinematic and acting perspective. He is an auteur of the old school of film making.
