But… but… Colorado is RIGHT THERE. Denver is like a 10-hr drive from SLC. :(

Well, I’m glad I got WOK signed when Brandon was here for The Rithmatist tour.

YES! Thank you, Brandon, for always coming home to Nebraska! :-D

No love for Dallas. Always Houston in the middle of the week.
Will wait to see him at JordanCon, I guess.

And wow! talk about a busy March 4th for him and Team Sanderson!

@5 I think he’s done like one tour signing in DFW. :( Why all the Houston though. The only people who want to go to Houston were either born there or haven’t been to Houston.

Avatar

Brandon’s going up the caffeine California/Pacific coast like a Highstorm. We’ll have to look into setting up a direct feed from Starbucks to Mysterious Galaxy to keep him awake after the midnight opener

When will Peter get a turn on one of these trips?

Avatar

I think Brandon has been to Dallas four times before, and he was in New York two months ago. It’s a big country and he can’t go everywhere on every tour. :(

I’m not going on the tour, thank goodness. All that travel just about kills Brandon and drives his family crazy, so no thanks. I’m planning to go to JordanCon though.

@1 He actually came to Orlando for The Way of Kings tour. I do wish we had something close than D.C. this time around, though.

Avatar

How do you gain access to these? I know he’s come through the UBookstore in Seattle before, but from my most recent visit there, the reading/signing area in there is TINY, and an author like Brandon is sure to more than fill up the store.

Peter, will the e-book be available for free or at a discount with the purchase of the hardback? I know Brandon has said in the past that he wanted to give the ebook for free for WoR, but I haven’t heard if this is going to happen.

Avatar

halibulu@12 the UBooks signing is usually at the University Temple Methodist Church, but I can’t tell if they’re doing it there this time or not.

Nathan@13 I haven’t heard from Tor whether they’ll be doing Kindle MatchBook with this book. It’s not something they do regularly; when the program started, they started a pilot experiment with three or four of Brandon’s books, but I don’t know how they feel that has gone.

I have never been to a book signing by one of my favorite authors so I am not quite sure how it works. Chances are I will not have had this book read by the time he rolls through Chicago. I was going to do a re-read of WOK first and finish that before starting WOR. So one question, are there spoilers at these types of events? I am guessing he reads from sections of the book but was just wondering about the spoiler issue. Thank you so much! I can not wait to read this book!

@12 I don’t know about all the venues, but I just googled the venue of interest to me (PA), and saw that they have an RSVP number to call. So maybe the other ones have similar things.

Avatar

So how is this fitting in with Brandon’s creative writing class? Is the class only half semester?

Avatar
DaemonDan

@17 When I took the class from him years ago he got subs on days he had to miss.

Avatar

Is he actually doing the signing in Provo at the BYU bookstore? Because it seems to me like it’d get crowded, fast.

Avatar

Aww no Alabama love? Even something like Nashville would work!

Will Brandon be at JordanCon this year??? Hope hope hope……

See you there, Peter!

@10, Peter A: I’ve just not seen a DFW tour date since I’ve been paying attention (2011). As you said, it’s a big world.
If I still lived in OKC, I would be just as use to the disappointment.

@8: very true! Then when they get hit with the oil smell of the city, they are ready to leave again. :-)

Huntington Beach! Yes! Keep coming to LA – I’m selfish enough to advocate for LA based on the fact that we have a ton of readers here.

Avatar

@15 I’ve gone to quite a few signings and most people are generally respectful of not giving out spoilers. All the authors I’ve seen won’t talk about spoilerish subjects, but as always there’s the chance someone could let something out. It’s never been a problem I’ve run into before though. I live in the Chicago area so I will be at that signing as well. Hope that helps.

edit: spelling

JHeez15 @15

The rule for book tours so close to the release date is no spoilers. Given the number of chapters Tor has posted as preview material, it may or may not be considered acceptable to ask about those things, but the norm is to lean well toward no reveals that anyone in the audience hasn’t yet read.

All that is from experience of past events, you can be sure that Brandon will define the rules for the event before he begins.

Peter, you should still come so San Diego, if only for the weather. ;-)

Avatar

No Canadian dates?

Maybe squeeze Vancouver in between Seattle and Houston?

Avatar

halibulu – The last time he used the space inside the bookstore, it was for The Way of Kings and the space was filled to (way!) overflowing. They put as many chairs in there as they could, and I think they even moved some stuff out of the way, to squeeze more in, but… since then they’ve been (as Peter said) across the street at the Methodist church. They’re usually ticketed, because ubooks has to rent the space; last time (Steelheart) the tickets were $5, or free if you bought your book at any ubooks location.

Come! come! come! I will be there in master-servant garb. :)

As others have said, don’t stay away from a signing for fear of spoilers. Brandon is generally pretty clear right up front that there are to be NO SPOILERS in the general Q&A, and anyone who reveals anything by their question is subject to lynching by people who haven’t finished yet. :) Spoiler questions have to be saved for the signing line, and even there, I’ve often seen him look around and ask if everyone in earshot has finished the book before he answers.

Peter… you really should come to Seattle… ;) (but, you know, maybe not in March… I can understand that…)

I think DavidL’s got you there.

San Diego event not quite that easy for me (NOT complaining!), but Mysterious Galaxy is less than 2 miles out of the way of my commute. The harder part is getting off work before 7.

I was looking through Brandon’s tour dates and saw that he was going to be in Colorado Springs in the next week, but for a writing conference. Is he planning on doing a signing as well (or just need a tour guide for interesting things around the area)? ;-) It’s my hometown, and it would be a shame not to see him, but I understand if the schedule is too much.

Avatar

Oh, well. The Steelheart tour took place literally on the block of my family’s piano school. Now, I have a forty five minute trip to San Francisco I must wheather in order to get my Sanderson fix.
Then again, I haven’t been out to the city in a while. This should be fun.

It’s true. Toronto and Vancouver. I’m crossing my fingers for a Winnipeg stop next tour though. Nebraska is closer than either Toronto or Vancouver to us Canadian prairie folk!

Avatar

Woo hoo – another Houston signing! Maybe I can make this one… It’s amusing to see the envy from the Dallasites @5 and @8 :-) Anyone know if MBTB is going to have the same signing policy that they usually do (must buy the book from them in order to get a signed copy)?

Avatar

Brandon will be in Calgary in August at When Words Collide…but I see Omaha is still closer to Winnipeg than that.

The Houston signing is ticketed. The Murder by the Book site says this: “A copy of Words of Radiance must be purchased in order to get a line number and get anything signed. We will start giving out numbers on Tuesday, March 04.”

@ZenBossa or The Allknowing Peter
Do you know the policy for signing at “The Poison Pen” in Phoenix? I’ve already preordered my copy elsewhere but I could always buy a different book of his there.

Avatar

During the Steelheart tour, I went to the signing in Manhattan to get my copy signed. I really wanted to have TWoK signed, but I couldn’t find the hardcover locally to buy. I should’ve bought it online, I waited too long, no one was selling it. I don’t buy hardcovers anymore… most everything I read now is on Kindle. But this is the first time in a long time that I want to buy a hardcover just to have it signed. So now, I’ve got TWoK hardcover, and will be buying the TWoR from the bookstore in Philly. Only an hour away from home!

Avatar

How many different books does Brandon typically bring with him to sell, when he does signings? The bookstore in Phoenix requires you to buy something, to get something signed, and there are very few Sanderon books I don’t own. And I don’t really want to wait two weeks until I get Words of Radiance!

Avatar

Zen, did they specify that it had to be a Sanderson book? Often, they’ll be happy if you just buy some book from them. Pick up something by Brent Weeks or Patrick Rothfuss. :)

Avatar

Thanks, Wetlander, I will try that. There are a number of books I have been thinking about getting.

Avatar

Also, if the bookstore is close to you, you can buy the book at the bookstore the day it comes out, save your receipt, and bring it the day of the signing.

hihosilver@28: I did check about this, and Brandon’s schedule the one day he’ll be in Colorado Springs is too packed with the conference to do anything off-site. Sorry!
